Justin Roberts - Lullaby (CD)

A rare thing: a bedtime album that's genuinely beautiful. Lullaby is Justin Roberts' most intimate and orchestral recording — a complete departure from his signature power-pop sound into something quieter, deeper, and more timeless. Chamber arrangements performed by members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra drift alongside bossa nova grooves, 70s soft rock warmth, and hushed R&B, all woven together into 10 original songs made for the last hour before sleep.

Roberts has said this is one of his two personal favorite albums he's ever made, and it shows. Touches of Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, and Carole King surface throughout, but the album never feels like imitation — it's wholly its own thing. Highlights include the tender "Polar Bear," the gentle "Heart of Gold," and the hushed closing title track.

The perfect baby shower gift, new parent present, or simply the album you put on when the house finally goes quiet. Released November 2012 on Carpet Square Records.
